History
Rancho Bernardo, the first master-planned community in California, consists of scenic rolling hills about 20 miles northeast of downtown San Diego. The original concept has been beautifully implemented into a planned community of residential, light industry including Sony and HP, shopping, parks, clubs and golf courses, or a “52-week vacationland.”
Originally Indian country, nearby are pictographs and hollows in rocks to ground corn. The Spanish fought at the Battle of San Pasqual here in 1846, marking the climax of the struggle to bring California into the Union. San Diego also houses the first of many California Missions founded by Fr. Junipero Serra. Visit Old Town San Diego to witness the history yourself.
