The April Board meeting has been rescheduled to April 14, 2014. Normally, Board meetings are held on the third Monday of each month, but in April, it will be held on the second Monday, April 14, instead of April 21. This is only a one time change.


Oaks North Community Center - Lawn Bowling, Swimming, Tennis
This attractive condominium development, a senior citizen housing development designed for residents ages 55 and over, is situated in scenic Rancho Bernardo, a community that has something for everyone. Our Oaks North Community Center, for all of the Oaks North area, has swimming, tennis, lawn bowling, and numerous other games and activities available. Other nearby activities include golf, hiking, fishing, shopping and fine dining.

With America’s Finest City only 20 miles away, you can enjoy professional football and baseball, one of the world’s finest zoos, and any of 15 major museums in Balboa Park, soon to celebrate its 100th birthday. The famous Old Globe Theater is renowned for its Shakespeare plays. Nearby Coronado boasts the Hotel del Coronado with miles of sandy beaches. Our many neighboring beach cities boast some of the best beaches, swimming and surfing anywhere. Only a short distance away are the beautiful mountains or desert.

History

Rancho Bernardo, the first master-planned community in California, consists of scenic rolling hills about 20 miles northeast of downtown San Diego. The original concept has been beautifully implemented into a planned community of residential, light industry including Sony and HP, shopping, parks, clubs and golf courses, or a “52-week vacationland.”

Bernardo Winery founded in 1889Originally Indian country, nearby are pictographs and hollows in rocks to ground corn. The Spanish fought at the Battle of San Pasqual here in 1846, marking the climax of the struggle to bring California into the Union. San Diego also houses the first of many California Missions founded by Fr. Junipero Serra. Visit Old Town San Diego to witness the history yourself.

Winery

Within the Oaks North development is the quaint Bernardo Winery founded in 1889, the oldest continuously operating winery in Southern California. Included in it are many specialty shops and a weekly Farmer’s Market. Within an hour’s drive you’ll be in Temecula wine country, also known for its numerous outstanding wineries.

Medical

Numerous state-of-the-art medical facilities exist nearby, including Scripps Clinics, Palomar Medical Center, Pomerado Hospital, Kaiser Permanente, and UCSD Medical Center.

Golf Courses

Many public and private courses surround the area of Rancho Bernardo. Oaks North Executive Course is a favorite to all, young and old, with a choice of three nine-hole courses. Some of the other nearby public courses are: Rancho Bernardo Inn The Vineyards Eagle Crest Woods Valley Meadow Lake Castle Creek Twin Oaks Carmel Mountain Ranch Doubletree Golf Resort Maderas Golf Club The local private courses are Rancho Bernardo Country Club, Bernardo Heights Country Club and Stoneridge Country Club.

Shopping

A large Westfield Mall is within a few miles includes a Nordstrom, Macy’s, J. C. Penney and Sears. Grocery stores are abundant, as are restaurants to delight anyone’s palate.

Weather

Rancho Bernardo’s weather is suitable for everyone with warm days and cool evenings.
